Working on the Methuselah Foundation Website
As a few of you might know, I've spent the past couple of months rebuilding the Methuselah Foundation web presence and support systems on a quasi-volunteer basis. What's above the waterline and visible to the public is now largely beaten into shape and reinforced with steel rods, set in the form it will occupy going forward.
While I take a break from all that for a little while, it'd be nice to hear what you folk think of the result; does it do it for you? More importantly, it would be helpful to gather outside and unbiased opinions both on what does exist on the website and what might exist in the future - whether in your eyes there are areas of the Foundation website that could be improved or extended. What would you like to see?
For some reason it is pretty slow (not to load, but once loaded, it seems to peg the CPU) on Safari 4.0.3 on OS X. Not sure if the same problem is present on other browsers/platforms.
Might be the flash movies; is that only on the homepage?
Yes, it seems to be something on the homepage.
On that page, CPU usage on Safari goes to 100% (and I'm on a 8-core Mac Pro, so flash movies shouldn't do that), and one the other pages usage is normal and things are fast. There's definitely a problem somewhere...
I'm having the flash folk look into it; you're right, it shouldn't be doing that.
Why is there still no link to the forum? If anyone has done it on purpose, why not state it openly *somewhere*? This was already criticised almost half a year ago I fear and I still haven't heard any statement. Makes a very bad impression.
That one I don't know the answer to beyond that it's not presently a part of the site design. Maintaining a forum requires a fair amount of volunteer time, which might have something to do with it.
