Lifeline and Protandim

Lifeline has surfaced again with news about their forthcoming antioxidant-promoting drug, now called Protandim.

Protandim is not an antioxidant, but its patent-pending formulation induces the body to produce more of its own natural antioxidant enzymes, thereby utilizing biology not chemistry to fight oxidation.

The body's primary antioxidant is Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and its levels have previously been shown to be directly correlated to aging in 14 different species, including humans. Species with the highest amounts of SOD live the longest and any increase in SOD corresponds to an increase in lifespan. According to separate studies conducted by John Tower, a molecular biologist at the University of Southern California, and by molecular biologist John Phillips of the University of Guelph in Ontario, the extended time of life was youth. Old age was postponed.

...

After very promising pre-clinical results, Protandim is currently undergoing human trials at the renowned Webb-Waring Institute of Cancer, Aging and Antioxidant Research (Webb-Waring). Although the duration of the studies will continue for a period that extends past the projected product release timeframe, there is already enough data to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of the Protandim product.

I imagine that this will prove popular with the healthy life extension community, just like resveratrol, and for all the same reasons. There is a school of thought that suggests trying anything with modest scientific backing for positive effects on healthy life span - and very good backing for a lack of negative effects - is worth the money. This is more of the same risk-reward evaluation that responsible consumers should apply to any supplement or medical product.

I confess that I'm not quite following the shuffle of companies involved in this product, but I'll be interested to see the results from human trials. Like other substances (such as resveratrol), it has some nice lab work behind it to date. The big question, as for all supplements with nice lab work behind them, is whether or not it works once stuffed into a pill...

UPDATE: It's actually rather unclear as to whether the product being pushed by Lifeline is the same as the original (produced by Ceremedix) back when they started out. The same applies to whatever they are testing now - is it in fact backed up by clinical studies, or do those refer to a different chemical or protein? Read this thread from the Immortality Institute forums for more background information.

UPDATE (June 03 2005): In light of all the recent interest, visitors might find it helpful to read my latest post on the topic of Lifeline and Protandim.

Comments

Although it has been shown that the overexpression of Cu/Zn and Mn-SOD increased the overall lifespan of transgenic flies who were engineered to overexpress the gene, a more recent study suggests that lifespan extension due to overexpression of mitochondrial SOD (and thioredoxin reductase) only occurs in backgrounds of short-lived strains as long-lived strains showed no benefit.

http://www.jbc.org/cgi/content/full/278/29/26418

This brings into question the usefulness of raising SOD (and other endogenous antioxidant) levels for the purpose of lifespan extension in species which are already long-lived.

Perhaps Protandim, whatever the formulation, may have some health benefit in individual with higher than normal levels of oxidative stress, but if the above study is applicable in general, it is likely that extending maximum lifespan will not be one of its effects.

When is Protandim excpected to be for sale in Canada?

Posted by: Dee at June 2nd, 2005 5:09 PM

I would surly try protandim for 3 months to see if it makes a diferance!

Posted by: betty at June 2nd, 2005 7:37 PM

I think we all may be missing the real point. I think we all wish we could feel, look and act younger but this protandim may not cure the wrinkles and the outward "niceties" that aging produces!! Instead I am looking ahead, hoping I can live longer than most; preventative for me.

What the heck? I'd love to feel 20 again....
p.s. I am only 38, but aging sucks...

I need this pill Protandim, where do i buy?

Posted by: Cobern Roberts at June 2nd, 2005 8:15 PM

IS PROTANDIM AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE IN USA OR CANADA? WHAT RESTRICTIONS IF ANY?
IT'S WILL NOT EXTEND MY LIFE, BUT IT MAY MAKE MY LATER YEARS MORE ENJOYABLE.
I AM RETIRED AND AVAILABLE FOR RESEARCH

Posted by: richard duberek at June 2nd, 2005 8:29 PM

First, it would be nice to live a longer life span, but while we are living longer, we have to watch the others that are not taking it die earlier, it would be like being immortal for an extra 20 years (maybe), also nobody has said if there are side effects from this new health supplement, is there any dangers that we should know about before taking it?
If this supplement works and it does reverse the aging process, then it would be a hugh break throught and he can thank only one person mother nature, she was the one who grow the plants that went into the supplement. I myself will be trying this new experimental supplement and in 3 months i will see if it does work.

Posted by: Tina at June 2nd, 2005 8:37 PM

Remember all the hype over resveratrol not so far back? Same deal here folks; this is something of a storm in a teacup. 20% life extension in mice, as claimed by Ceremedix's CMX-1152 rather than whatever Lifeline is selling under the Protandim brand, can be done with good diet - a few years here or there is far from the best that medical science can achieve. If you want a much longer, healthier life, then give your support to efforts like Aubrey de Grey's Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS) initiative:

Love the idea of a pill to reduce free radicals and stress related symptoms to the body
Making it available as a daily supplement is a good idea
Looking at the ingredients, I like the fact that I am not taking medication but food supplements
Unlikely to be addictive either, it should be made in mass quantities so the price can drop
because not everyone has an extra $50 a month to spend on one pill.

I WAS IMPRESSED BY THE EFFICACY OF PROTANDIM IN REDUCING FREE RADICALS IN THE BODY.I AM DIABETIC AND WILL LIKE TO VOLUNTEER FOR ANY CLINICAL TRIALS IN THE CHICAGO AREA.BECAUSE IF IT CAN REDUCE FREE RADICALS IT CAN HELP MANY DIABETICS MANAGE THEIR DIABETES.

Compared the list of ingredients from what the show suggests to LN's website and they seem the same stuff.

Wondered why Ceremedix is taking so long to get in the market? Trackback any suggestions on why the delay?

Was impressed and interested in the Prime Time segment on Protandim (06/02/05). Oddly and frightenly, my husband was diagnosed with diabetes (type 2) two days ago. He would be interested in volunteering for studies w/Protandim. We live in northeastern New York.

Protandim aledgedly revs up the body's machinery to produce our natural antioxidants catalase and superoxide dismutase at about 400 % over normal levels. My concern would be that this might be like a fast idle with the potential of making this machinery " pump its little guts out " as Earnestused to say

May we volunteer for the study? My husband was recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. Is there a list of disclosed ingredients? Thank you.

Posted by: Connie McCabe at June 3rd, 2005 5:10 AM

Hi Great World of Ours! We are so blessed to live in a world where studies like this are being performed. I watched the brief interview discussing Protandim last night on Prime Time and I could not contain my excitement. I'll tell you why. I recently had a breakthrough with my own health (in general) after seventeen years of excruciating pain in my muscle tissue, enduring muscle biopsies, extremely elevated CPK's and other testing, I discovered NUTRITION to be my saviour. Not ONE neurologist, or rheumatologist had a clue what was causing my body to burn my own muscle tissue for fuel. Even the morphine patches and other narcotics I lived on did not TOUCH my pain. In short, it was discovered through a simple blood test that I had a vitamin B6 malabsorption. Without going into too much detail, supplementation has CHANGED MY LIFE. I felt SO bruised-to-the-touch that I cried even if my own children hugged me. FOLKS, I am here to tell you that if I have been able to alleviate my pain 70% through the use of nutritional supplements, I am DEFINITELY interested in trying Protandim. I now have "QUALITY OF LIFE" but know that my body desires MORE and I'm not sure what it is. Protandim JUST MAY BE what my body is looking for. I (without a doubt) would like to try Protandim. If there is a clinical trial's study going on in Raleigh, NC, I would like to know. I don't want to offend anyone, but please believe me when I say that "our bodies are screaming for nutritional changes". How long can we continue to believe that our bodies can cope with all the stresses we have in life when we are feeding them junk food and processed food. Unfortunately, I fear that the current cost of Protandim may deter some folks who really need it, from being able to afford it. Is there any chance that the price may come down in the near future?

Posted by: Bonnie Camp at June 3rd, 2005 5:56 AM

I too am very excited about the promises of Protandim. I was diagnosed with type two diabetes almost 20 years ago and have unfortunately developed most of the ailments attributed to this disease to include chronic kidney disease. I too am also interested in being in the study. If I can get a mosquito bite and have it heal in less than 3 weeks, I am sold. Definately excited about the prospects.

I am a 62 year old male in very good health. I exercise and watch my diet vigorously. I would be happy to maintain my current state of health and would rejoice if it could be improved to previous norms.
Other than the T-bar testing is there any measure of effectivity that has been reported. I would hate to lay out the cost of this suppliment and have a measurable improvement.
Have there been any negative reactions to Protandim?

I was very excited to watch the PrimeTime last night about Protandim. I have been diagnosed with MS ten years ago and I am doing fine. One thing I learned was to be very careful about any western or alternative medication/vitamis. I check everything really well, before taking them. I searched the net about Protandim. Could not find anything negative about it, only good things. You can find all of the information and if you want order it from this site:

http://www.lifelinetherapeutics.com/index.htm

I called and order two bottles for myself and my husband this morning. Meanwhile I will continue with my research to make sure that it is safe to take. If this medicine really does what they are claiming, this would be something really huge for us and mainly the next generation.

Posted by: Susan at June 3rd, 2005 2:19 PM

Susan, there are plenty of pills for the dying part. But I'd be willing to wager a large sum of money that if you were an experienced, wise 75-year old with the body, health and vigor you had at 30, you wouldn't suddenly wake up one morning and decide to take the cyanide capsule...as I've pointed out elsewhere, it's the getting old that gets old. Without age-related degeneration, what would there be to turn us off the wonderful process of living life?

I am very excited about this pill, and have already ordered two bottles couple of days ago. But meanwhile I am still researching about Protandim on line. One thing that I like to mention and of course I will let my doctor know as well is that I have hyperactive thyroid which was treated couple of years ago. Currently I am on daily medicaction (Levothroid) so my thyroid can have the normal daily function. One of the ingredients in Protandim is Ashwagandha which according to one study in animals, this particular herb may raise thyroid hormone levels. Therefore it should not be used by people with hyperthyroidism. Unfortunately on the fact label of Protandim does not say exactly how much they are using for each ingredients, only the total amount. I did send an e-mail about this to their customer service today, and also I will contact my doctor to get his opinion as well. Since Hyperactive thyroid is very common among people, therefore I thought I should share this with you all, and also get your opinion. Thanks.

If you took Protandim for a while then stopped, would there be lower then normal levels of Superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathionne peroxidase (SOD, CAT, GPX) - the body's antioxidant enzymes?

Posted by: David at June 5th, 2005 11:43 AM

I'm afraid that Protandim will turn out to be a scam. PrimeTime did now show any independent evidence or supporting research.
There is also no scientific literature that I can find on how Milk Thistle, Bocopa, Aswanganha, Green Tea, Tumeric can cause the body to produce SOD and Catalayse.
Show us some real proof or this will be just another scam like the fake penis pill advertised on the same Primetime show.
I'm really pissed at Primetime for such a poor job.

Posted by: sal at June 6th, 2005 3:06 PM

Sal, I think the price of the pill is probably cheaper than if you bought the ingredients separately. Plus, from what I read you need to have the right proportions of each ingrediant to make this work. That's probably the secret to all of this. It's a trade secret, like Coca Cola.

Interestingly Dr. Ann Wigmore talked about "SOD" benifits years ago and pointed out that it, other hugely beneficial enzymes, and other little understood nutrients can be found in readily available wheatgrass juice. This can be much less expensive than suppliments which are for sale for profit, although this Protandim does sound promising.

I ordered Protandim and it was delivered today, 6/11/2005 - I took my first dose at approx 2.30PM ET, It is now 4.30PM and already I have noticed a marked increase in energy levels (possibly attributed to the caffeine in the green tea extract).

I will post my personal experience on this forum over the next few weeks. I am not expecting any immediate results, probably notice a gradual result in approx 4 weeks.

I am 30 yo, male, smoker (20 p/d), no health problems (other than an occasional cold or flu twice per year), cholesterol normal, stable and normal blood pressure, moderate alcohol drinker, currently take one multi viatamin per day for approx. 1.5 years (centrum for men with lycopene).
Will keep you all posted, of course my experience is not scientific proof of the effectiveness of the product - just one man's opinion.

Also I have made a mental note, not to take product at night due to green tea extract ingredient (caffeine).

If Primetime is correct, Protandim is a wonderful discovery. I also am taking levothyroxine for hyperthyroidism, and I am very careful to do research on natural remedies as some ingredients affect thyroid levels. I would like to hear from Ophelia if she has the answer from her doctor. I enjoy this forum as I tend to trust actual consumers more than a website selling the newest 'miracle'.

Posted by: Jane at June 12th, 2005 10:02 AM

Hi Jane,
I also take a daily pill for my hyperactive thyroid (Levothroid). Last week I sent a package to my doctor about Protandim. I found out on Friday that he has been out of his office last week. I am sure he will call me this week after revewing the information. I also sent an e-mail to my Neurologist (I also have MS, but for now doing well) asking him about taking Protandim. This is what he replied back:

"Dear Ophelia,
Thank you for the so-kind words. I know of no clinical evidence regarding either its effectiveness in preventing actual disease, but likewise, I do not know of any evidence that it harm you or interact with Avonex. It is simply just not known. So, I would say, that you wold be taking this supplement at your own, albeit unknown and probably low, risk."

Of course normally Majority of doctors are very conservative about alternative medicine and most of the time they don't encourage or discourage you from taking this kind of deitary supplement. They simply don't want to take responsibility.
Now with having hyperactive tyroid, we have to have blood test at least every three to six months (Everyone is different) to make sure it is working fine.
In my case, I normally have my blood test every couple of months, but in this particular case I will have a test for my tyroid this week, and then another one in about four weeks, just to monitor it since I have started taking protandim.
As soon as I hear from my doctor I will let you know the result. But then again, most of them they won't really give you the OK to take this kind of vitamins, so we are on our own.

Today was the third day that my husband and I took Protandim. My husband he is fine, and does not yet feel anything different in his body, and of course for everyone the result most likely are different. For me, what I noticed which is not normal for my body, is that I feel more relax, and at around late afternoon, I kind of feel a little sleepy. The day before yesterday, and today, I actually took a short nap which I normally don't. one of the ingeridients in protandim is Ashwagandha, which stimulates the immune system. It has also been shown to inhibit inflammation and improve memory. I believe since my body and my mind majority of the time, during the day, are active, therefore my body needs some rest which I hardly respect that. So I believe because of Ashwagandha, my body is forced to relax itselfn which it needs.

Ashwagandha has many significant benefits, but is best known for its powerful adaptogenic properties, meaning that it helps mind and body adapt better to stress. It nourishes the nerves and improves nerve function to help you maintain calm during stressful situations.
It is also good for people who do physical labor or exercise a lot, to help the body adapt to physical stress.
It is a powerful Rasayana, meaning that it acts as an overall tonic for greater vitality and longevity.
It nourishes all the bodily tissues (Dhatus), including the joints and nerves.
It is also a powerful Medhya Rasayana, which means that it enhances all three aspects of mind power (Dhi -- comprehension; Dhriti -- memory; and Smriti -- recollection).
Ashwagandha nourishes the crucial mind-body connection and psychoneuro immune response (called PNI). It helps coordinate the mind and senses, as well, which is essential for good quality sleep.
It balances the mind (Prana Vata). This is essential for happiness in the face of mental or emotional stress.
It increases the quality and quantity of Ojas, the master coordinator between the body and consciousness. It helps pure consciousness slide into the physiology.
It has a Sothara effect -- which means it helps clear impurities (Ama) from the various channels of the body.
Ashwagandha enhances virility and has aphrodisiac properties, especially for men.
It is also well known for its powerful immune enhancing benefits.
It is considered among the best of all substances for balancing Vata. It also pacifies Kapha at the same time, which is a rare combination.
As with almost all single all herbs, there is one small caution. Ashwagandha should always be used with other herbs such as licorice to balance out possible heating effects (especially for the heart).
Warning: Ashwagandha is believed to be safe, however, formal safety studies have not been reported. Therefore, it should not be used by pregnant or nursing women, young children, or those with severe kidney or liver disease. If you are taking sedative drugs, you should not take ashwagandha at the same time except under your doctor's supervision.

Anyway, I will keep you update with taking Protandim. I am excited and of course at the same time I am being very careful and only does my own research and only hear the advice of the people who are expert. A lot of people when they say something negative without any valid reason, have hidden agenda (maybe trying to promote their own product or internet site). Therefor when it comes to my health, I feel like I am and I should be on my own, even more than my doctors. No one knows my body and my mind better than myself. Sorry for the long message.

What about this ?

If I take another pill of Milk Thistle or Aswagandha along with the Protandim, would this make the "special formulation" of Protandim ineffective ?

My guess is that you just have a mix of herbs in Protandim that do nothing more then a mix of the same herbs taken seperately or together in another pill.

I'm claiming that Protandim is a SCAM. Show me some independent scientific evidence that these pills reduce oxidative stress as advertised or this is the new variation on the penis enlargment pill.

I say it's a scam, and I bet you all wished you were getting a piece of the pie!! There wasn't enough said on the show to convince me.

When it hits $4 a bottle (after all the hype) I might try it....but otherwise I think I'll just eat right, live right, treat others well, don't sweat the small stuff and die naturally... Like the Lord intended... And save $50 a month.

I'm not saying those who buy it are idiots, I'm saying I think they are taking advantage of you all... Profits are made mostly by our fears...

Good luck to those who are taking it and posting their results!! That is the best thing to do for us. I have lived without this for 47 years, I'm sure I can wait a couple of months to see how it is helping you, or not. I appreciate the time and effort for your posting of your personal results.

God help the scam artists.... You will get yours in the end.

As I read through this forum I found quite a lot of problematic claims from people that appear to have little to no biochemical / health training. I was intrigued after seeing the ABC News special and thought I would do a bit of research. I am a current doctoral candidate at a top 3 university in biochemistry. I am certainly a skeptic, but definitely find their "results" interesting and in a positive way. The mouse studies look promising, and this is actually a very solid indicator of how a human might react. I saw several posts asking about taking the individual ingredients independently. This is likely not going to have the effect you would like. Biochemistry is a balancing act, and if you don't take the right combination often you will not see the effect you are looking for. Additionally they state the botanical extracts are produced using a proprietary process. This likely means that what you buy from your local health food store won?t resemble what you get from the Protandim guys at all. In fact, the processing of the botanicals and concentrating of particular elements and discarding of others might be the key to making their formulation work. They mention patent pending on the formulation so I might poke around the patent literature to see what I can find.

As for the posts where people are looking to extend their lives or simply feel better...These are very nebulous concepts. I doubt that the average person would notice a change in how they "feel" after taking Protandim even if it does exactly what they say it does. Will you feel like a 20 year old...absolutely not, however your body may respond to oxidative stress much more closely to how a 20 year old would. This is actually very important as the typical oxidative stress markers are found in many disease states. In fact I just read an article talking about how when supplemented with SOD (intravenously) mice who's muscles were strained showed significantly less damage than those that only received a saline solution 7 days after injury. One can imagine that if the claims about Protandim are true then a person with muscle strains might actually see a faster recovery and less muscle damage done after acute injuries of this type. (That?s a statement that needs qualification). There are quite a number of implications not for extending life per say, but for living a healthier life perhaps even helping to reduce the likelihood of developing certain cancers who's disease states are also accompanied by high oxidative stress or other problems that may develop such as deregulation of some proteins by nitration which can happen under high oxidative stress. These aren?t claims that are made by the company, but you can see a number of prospective positives if their pill actually raises the enzyme levels they claim.

One other comment to some of the people talking about supplements of antioxidants / enzyme supplementation / eating the right diet. The biochemistry of the digestive system prevents most of these from causing any major change in the body's metabolic state. The digestive enzymes are specifically charged with breaking down proteins that you ingest, so it's actually pretty tough to deliver enzymes into the body by ingestion.

Finally I would like to mention that Dr. McCord, the doctor the ABC News special talked to, is a very well respected researcher in the arena of oxidative stresses. I am very interested to see if he comes out with a peer reviewed paper on this topic as that would be the ultimate test of the research, and it seems that might be in the works. He is arguably one of the best people to study the effects of the pill, even if he is the scientific advisor of the company. This is actually a good thing, since with his academic reputation it would be a very bad thing for him to ruin it by associating with spurious claims. I don?t believe this is a scam based on his involvement and some other markers that I won?t go into. I?ll try to get my hands on some of the preliminary results etc (being from an Ivy League school does have its privileges) and will post more if I can find something. Sorry for such a long post, but felt like contributing.

To Ophelia and Optimistic Skeptic - What interesting and thought-provoking insights, from completely different points of view. I am also a skeptic, but after a lot of research, have always taken supplements. I also respect the readers who are more cynical. They are probably correct, but I would like to believe with work done by such respected doctors, this new product could be beneficial. I am sure doctors are the same everywhere (I am from Canada) but I know mine has enough trouble keeping up on current treatments without spending a lot of time on the newest unproven developments. It is very frustrating and we have to reply on others for up to date information.

Very interesting forum.

Optimistic Skeptic

The problem with this scientific evidence and lab testings is that I feel they used a bait and switch scenerio. I'm not the only one. Read some other sites. It looks like the test results come from research on Ceremedix CMX-1152 drug.

So it looks like they took results from CMX-1152 and applied it to a mix of herbs named Protandim under a licensing agreement with CereMedix.

There is also no reason to suspect that a well respected doctor can't be associated with a scam. Money is a very big incentive.

Show me some independent studies, peer reviews, or other science to suggest how a mix of 4-5 herbs can alter the cell chemistry.

I certainly wouldn't call Primetime's coverage of that product to be anything but an infomercial.

Please advise which company or companies are going to be marketing and selling Protandim

As promised I am writing an update regardng my experience with Protandim.

Today I swallowed my 7th dose, I take it at approx 1.00PM every day with a banana. I have NOT noticed significant results (either positive or negative) but have noticed some minor effects.

As I mentioned in a previous post, approx 30 minutes after taking the pill I experience a marked increase in energy, is this from the caffeine or just psychological? Also I am sleeping slightly better, it always takes me a long time to fall asleep and it still does but I have noticed that once I fall asleep I am not waking up in the middle of the night. I keep irregular hours and my sleep patterns reflect that. One other effect I have noticed is that the morning after I have been out consuming alcohol I am not "hungover". It seems that my body is breaking down the alcohol faster - could this be from the milk thistle, milk thistle is supposed to help the liver quite a bit. If it is well then I can only assume the liver is breaking down other toxins equally as efficiently. I am a moderate drinker, 3- 4 glasses of wine with dinner, a couple after dinner drinks and maybe a few glasses of champagne. This would be approx 3-4 times every week.

These are the only effects I have noticed and maybe they are not even attributed to Protandim. I will continue to take the supplement, I have auto ship so I have decided to fork over the $150 for a 3 month supply and decide at that point what I should do.

I will continue to post my personal experience as time progresses.

I am also writing an update about taking Protandim.

Today was the seventh day for both my husband and myself to take the pill.

As mentioned before, the fist few days I felt kind of relaxed but very sleepy, mainly during late afternoons. I even took a short nap during the afternoon on the first couple of days. Something that I normally don't do. Of course that feeling is gone now. I don't feel tired like I used to the first couple of days of taking the pill. However, I do feel like my body is very relaxed.

Like Karl, I also don't sleep very well during the night, but for the past couple of nights I feel that I am sleeping better, and don't wake up in the middle of the night like I used to.

My husband is retired, and not as active as I am during the day. He tells me that these days he feels he has more energy, and also mentally he feels like he is more encourage doing things during the day. He says he feels happier.

As Karl said this feelings might not even have anything to do with Protandim, or it might very well have evertything to do with it. We can?t say for sure. It is still way too early to tell. I have learned that I need to wait at least three weeks before really feeling anything with taking Protandim. So hopefully I will know more in another couple of weeks.

I am also planning to use Protandim for couple of months. Of course mine is more expensive because I have to order two bottles per month. One for myself and one for my husband. I am also on Auto ship plan.

If Protandim does what they are claiming, then that is great, and if it does not then that is ok too. At least I have tried it. I have two major health issues (MS, and hyperactive thyroid). Thankfully I am not like some other people to feel desperate and put anything into my body that come to the market hoping for full recovery. I really do my research first to feel comfortable with the decision that I make. I certainly don't want to harm myself.

I also don?t insist on being right about Protandim.

In life we cannot be sure about anything, and of course Protandim is one of them. I know there are so many people out there that have nothing good to do in life, but take advantage of other people in anyway possible, but then we also have the tools and ability to do our own research and feel comfortable for the decision we make. I don?t know if this is a scam or it really works. But my research tells me that I should keep an open mind about Protandim, and if I had chosen not to take the pill, I certainly would not have kept discouraging other people not to take the pill, or not to at least be curious about it. We are all responsible for our own actions. I don't feel the need to convince anyone about Protandim. You are free to believe what you want to believe, and I certainly am free to have my own mind. Thank you.

I've been taking Protandim for 12 days now and I've too experience being very relaxed which is very out of the ordinary for myself. I have a business and usually I just stay in a ball of knots. I've been sleeping a 100% better, usually I sleep 5 hours maximum but since taking Protandim i've been sleeping throughout the night and 7 hours at least. If it's not the Protandim then it's a strange coinsidence. Also everyday i've started a fast pace walk for 2 miles since I seat in the chair all week doing paperwork and I use to dread the walk but now I look forward to the walking, I don't know what gives but something has changed, thumbsup so far, I hope there's no side effects in the future.

Has anyone noticed a runny nose? I dont know if this is from the Protandim. There are two of us in my household who are currently taking Protandim and both of us have runny noses. Would be interested to know if anyone else is experiencing this too, I know a runny nose is common and could be from a host of different reasons and may not be a side effect of Protandim but normally mine would last only a day or two, This is lasting about 4 days now.

I started taking protandim right away after watching the show on primetime. Not for aging but because of a hope to be more healthier - noticed a rash the second day which turned out to be shingles. I have never had this problem and can only guess this is a side effect of taking the drug somehow. Everyone should be cautious who takes it and consult your doctor first - as I did not.

I have been taking Protandim for about a week. I have bad asthma and carry an inhailer with me in the spring and summer (which I use abou 10 times a day). Yesterday I was out walking the dog and it started to rain. We stared running back to the car and after about 5 minutes we had to stop (the dog was getting to hot). I was amazed that I was not huffing and puffing as usual and I didn't need to use the inhailer. I could not believe I was able to run has far as I did (and could have probably run further except for the dog getting hot). This might just be that the pollution is low, although that generally does not matter. My sleep is actally worse I feel (I generally feel tired when I wake up) and my eyes have been watering like crazy for the last 3 days, especially when I sleep (this has never happened before). Like I said I have only been taking this for a week, will be interesting to see what happens when I have been on it for a month.

That is interesting - I have noticed some hives about 4, I wonder if this is related to Protandim.

I too have had a runny nose sice taking Protandim, along with tingling sensation in my arms and legs, this is my 7th day on Protandim. The first couple of days I had nausea when I had something to eat, my thought was that Protandim was cleaning my system out but....Im beginning to have some doubts about this little pill. It would be nice to live a Healthy, Longer Life but at what costs?????? Regards, Gregory

Coult it be the immune system kicking in? I am becoming a little concerned at this stage - maybe this small annoyances may settle down. I hope so!

day seven for me karl and greg.no runny nose, yes to nausea which is gonethankfully,im asmatic my lungs felt as if they were on fire never felt that in my life but never the less breathing better in chinese medicine this is known as a healing.i have felt tingling in my arms inexplicable ?definately not psychosomatic .i believe the immune system is kicking in.i think all of us are on to something huge here.i do know this, protandim has been sent to the top twenty scientists in this country at some point all of us will have a better idea being reviewed by a jury of their peers.when you read the literature they emphazized they are not relying on subjective testimonial meaning what some of us are experiencing but objective results scientific proof.if this was a scam the scientist wouldnt offer up his findings for review so lets sit tight and hope for the best ! and keeep in mind who he is and the accolades he has received just look and the papers he published.this is serious well respected scientist.

i am 51 yr.s young male and very active. my only health concern is high blood pressure that i take enalapril, clonidine, and hydrochlorot to correct.
i started taking protandim three days ago on 6-20. i really didn't expect to notice anything, but i see that others are feeling some effects. i haven't noticed much but i will say that the last two nights i've slept well, but lately i've been sleeping pretty good anyway. the only other effect that i think might be happening is, it seems like things are working a little better in the man department, if you know what i mean.

As a professional personal trainer I had to try the product myself so if in fact it does work I can recommend it to my clients with confidence. This is my 8th day taking protandim and I too have felt the tingling in my arms. Since I do all my training online I sit a lot behind the computer so I thought it had something to do with that. Well, after reading the post above I now know that's not the case. I have years of experience in health, fitness, and supplementation and cannot think of a reason why the tingling is occuring. It could have something to do with detoxing so I have increased my water intake to see if that helps. If it does then I would feel confident enough to say the tingling effects are definitely caused by detoxing. If in fact that is the case increasing your water intake will take care of that. Also, I have been sleeping a little better although nothing to brag about at this point. However, I will agree that the supplement has some sexual stimulating effects. Will keep everyone here posted on my overall results.
